Service Projects for January 16, 2017

President’s Park Greenhouse- George Mason University

  • Location: on-campus
  • Time of project: 10:00am-2:00pm
  • Description of opportunity: Students volunteering at the President’s Park Greenhouse on Mondays/Fridays will have opportunities to help sow seeds, transplant seedlings, maintain water quality, and sort the worm compost bins. Tasks to maintain the hydroponic growing systems can cause water to pool on the floor. So either wear or bring with you shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. It can get warm in the greenhouse on sunny days, so I recommend wearing your clothes in layers in case you need to cool off.

Meet in the parking lot of the Norma Hoffman Visitor Center (3701 Lockheed Blvd, Alexandria VA 22306 – use the address if using a GPS). Please dress for the weather, wear closed toe shoes, and bring water and insect repellent/sunscreen. If you prefer your own work gloves, please bring them as well. Otherwise work gloves, vests, and trash bags will be provided. Consider staying and taking a stroll through the wetland!
